Penguicon, Here I come

Well, I’ve been appointed, anointed or afflicted with a position on the Penguicon board of directors. As of right now, the web page has yet to be updates, but the votes was held last night. Right now, I’m member without portfolio - there are 4 board positions and 6 board members. As I am the out-of-state board member likely to stay on for a while - Rob Landley, my coworker and co-founder of Penguicon, is looking to give up his seat on the board shortly.

Being an out-of-state member of an organization has it’s challenges. Though much of the work is done online, the in-person work work requires a five and a half hour drive from Pittsburgh to Detroit where the convention occurs. This is very time consuming - it generally eats a day and a half of time time as I tend to crash on John Guest’s couch overnight.

One of the things I look forward to serving on is the bylaws committee. The current bylaws are showing their age and need to be reworked. It also allows be to put my love on constitutional theory to work. Everybody likes to apply their passions to a real-life problem.

As I write this, I’m getting read to head back to Pittsburgh. There’s a lot of work ahead of all of us. This should be fun.
